German
proto-power metal heroes Accept are responsible for some of the
best heavy metal of the 80’s, and their pint-sized frontman, Udo
Dirkschneider, is certainly one of the most iconic figures in rock n’
roll. But thrashing around your room to the strains of “Restless and
Wild” is one thing, and staring at dwarfy Udo for an hour and a
half is another thing entirely. Which is not say that it’s not fun,
because it certainly is, but it’s just hard to take the band as seriously
when Udo, back in his early 80’s long-haired munchkin stage, screams
“They’re all laughing at me!” in the TV clip for “I’m a Rebel”.
Well, do you blame ‘em, Udo? There’s a few vintage clips here , including
the memorable “Balls to the Wall” clip (Udo on wrecking
ball!) and the vertigo inducing “Midnight Mover”, where the
camera spins wildly around the band for 3 alarming minutes. There’s also a
full-length show from Osaka that also serves a documentary, inserting
behind the scenes footage and adding historical narration between songs.
There’s also a stand-alone behind the scenes segments with various
television clips, including lots of backstage and interview footage. Oh,
but that’s not all, baby. There’s bonus live clips, an awesome photo
gallery, a full discography with cover graphics, and best of all, you can
flip it over for 9 previously unreleased audio tracks, including two “I’m
a Rebel” out-takes and 5 “Breaker” demos. It’s a fantastic package,
really. All that’s missing is your very own truncheon to wield along with
Udo. And an extra-short pair of camo pants. _____________________________________________________
