Pig

Directed by Nico B

Starring: Rozz Williams and some guy that really needs to work on his self-esteem.

The latest DVD release from Cult Epic's head honcho Nico B unspools from the guts of his own camera. A 1998 collaboration between himself and the late Rozz Williams, former crypt keeper of infamous mope rockers Christian Death, this black and white short drifts somewhere betwixt art house flick, S&M shocker, and pseudo-snuff film. Rozz himself plays the killer, whose face is never seen, save for a brief flash of pig snout in the rear view mirror. This faceless terror drives out to the desert where the victim, a skinny man with a bandaged head, seems to be waiting for him, ready to embrace his dark fate. Rozz drags him out to some abandoned shack and tortures him, for real, as the camera calmly documents the man's consensual suffering. There's a supplemental audio interview with Rozz elsewhere on the DVD, where he talks about his choice of victim, were he a serial killer. Pig's unlucky soul seems to be just his type, so this film is obviously some kind of wicked wish fulfillment on Rozz's part. Nico narrates on an optional audio track, describing the uniquely bizarre shooting process of this film. I mean, when you're carving 'Pig' into a guy's chest with a razorblade, you really need to get it done in one take. Obviously, not for the squeamish, 'Pig' is renegade art run amuck, and it's a fascinating look into the dark heart of the man who almost single-handedly created Death Rock. With his suicide as a tragic coda, 'Pig' stands as a terminal document of one man's unhealthy obsessions. How far can too far go? Well, you're soaking in it, citizen.

This beautifully produced and compiled DVD, by the way, comes with the Rozz Williams designed booklet that the killer uses as a blueprint for carving the poor bastard up. It looks like some profane cut and paste black bible put together by Crispin Glover in a really bad mood. A very compelling package from Cult Epics, a company that appears to have no fear whatsoever.
