Coyote Shivers |
A ubiquitous darling of the L.A.
sleaze-and-roll club scene, NYC transplant Coyote Shivers puts
his wryest-motherfucker-on-the-block persona to wax on not one but two
CDs that are certain to make the ladies’ livers quiver and knees freeze
with his smartmouthed punk-and-roll. One Sick Pup is the rock
disc, full of unchecked libido and downtown bravado, wrapped in a
skull-and-crossbones-studded binding of gritty boho rawk and aided by an
impressive roster of musical degenerates (including Billy Ficca
from Television, Bam from the Dogs D’Amour and
Wildhearts and his missus Share Ross from Vixen, and
Chad Stewart of Motochrist). You’ve got to hand it to the
man – he’s got a way with words (“Listen, babe, I’m gorgeous, you’re
gorgeous, we’re perfect”) that lends a lot of charm to his slightly
recycled glitter-hustler image. One imagines that after a few too many
drinks, you might not be too pissed at the guy if he slipped your girl
The Shocker, just as long as he kept up a steady patter.Disc Numbah Two, From My Bedroom to Yours, is Acoustic Coyote, but thankfully minus any of the snivelly-sensitive stigma that comes when rocker types strap on an unplugged guitar. You get non-electric versions of a handful of tunes from One Sick Pup, as well as “Sugarhigh,” the tune he sang in the lamentable record store movie Empire Records (on a rooftop with Renee Zellweger, I believe – yeah, I know). Bedroom is slight, maybe a little indulgent, but if your handle is Coyote Shivers, indulgence is probably the attitude du jour, no? Anyway, here’s a flaming two-fer of West Coast glitz to keep your summer on the sleazy side. Coyote Shivers’ web site _____________________________________________________ |
