Lars Frederiksen and
the Bastards |
Note
to the gents: ladies love Vikings. Just check out the liner notes for
Lars Frederiksen’s second CD with his hellsquad the Bastards
– there’s all sorts of girls in various states of undress lolling over
the fellas. And we’re not talking handsome dudes here – bassist Big
Jay Bastard (U.S. Roughnecks) looks like Tor Johnson
on a bender – so don’t worry if you’re not GQ material. All it takes, it
seems, is to crank out buzzbomb punk and roll at 125 mph like Lars and
the Bastards, and the girls will beat a path to your door. Encouraging
news, I imagine. The record rocks like hell, too, especially a driving
cover of the Blasters’ “Marie Marie,” though I think Lars’
whiskey-in-the-barrel singalong, “My Life to Live,” with his ex-Rancid
mate Tim Armstrong, was a better idea on paper than in the
studio. Still, am I gonna knock a Viking (and especially one that scores
as much tail as Lars)? Whadda you think, Sven? Bastards website _____________________________________________________ |
