Harmless
psychobilly from Nekromantix bass slinger Kim Nekroman and his
personal Lady Frankenstein, wife Patricia. Kim handles guitar on this
one while Patricia takes over the stand-up bass (and plays it well, which is
no easy feat) and croons (in a flexible but pretty unremarkable voice); the
thirteen (ooh, spooky) tunes cover the usual psychobilly obsessions—girls,
ghouls, tattoos and taboos. The band swings, especially on the radio hit “Cool
Flat Top,” but never really breaks a sweat—this is starter psychobilly
in the same way soundalikes No Doubt serves as My First Ska-Punk band
for first-year two-toners. Hardcore Teenage Cavemen will probably pass this
one up in favor of established fiends like Demented Are Go! or even
newer creeps like Boston’s Photon Torpedos or Os Catalepticos,
but this might be the right thing to pass along to your gloomy little sister
who digs Emily Strange before turning her on to the harder stuff (Meteors,
Cramps, Guana Batz, etc.)
