A18 wants you dead. I understand that’s a bit shocking, given that
you might not be familiar with this ferocious urban assault outfit, but
frontman Isaac Golub utters those very words during “Stab You
Through the Everything,” the third track on “Dear Furious,” their
latest record for Victory, and facts are facts.
But in the same song, Golub shrieks “There must be something wrong
with me” over and over until the track fades and the lyric becomes less of a
disturbing observation and more of a mantra. So their desire for your blood
on their hands isn’t anything personal. They feel this way about everyone.
Strap yourself into the driver’s seat of a steam shovel, and then drive it
over a cliff. That mix of bones pulverizing and steel compacting into dust,
along
with your agonized screams, is essentially the sound A18 builds their songs
around, with Golub up front and calling for more blood in a voice ringing
with the ragged desperation of a man with his back against the wall for the
last time. This is no-bullshit, meat-and-potatoes hardcore, with the smoke
of hell steaming from every pore and its blackened fingers aching to wrap
themselves
around the nearest throat. Be smart and get on their good side before they
find yours. If they have one, that is.
