Los Aarones, despite having a Spanish name and being on a Canadian label, are a hook-heavy Norwegian surf-garage-punk power trio. Only two of ‘em are actual ‘Aarones’, tho. Their main vox/guit/organ man, Audun Audio Aaron, has one of the coolest garbled English accents I’ve heard since whatever Eye-talian band just blew through town, and he utilizes it to full effect here, spitting out bluntly literal lyrics like “Chewing on my bubblegum/gonna hang out in the sun” with no trace of snark whatsoever. Boss. Musically, well, they got a song called “Teenage Ramone”, which kinda gives the game away. Very reminiscent of Sloppy Seconds and Screeching Weasel and other Gabba-gabba goons, but with a nice twist of Scandinavian weirdness. My favorite track on this 6 song EP has gotta be “Fine in ‘89”, a deceptively sunny little pop-punker about meeting up with an old crush a dozen years later and wondering where the fuck her hotness went. Believe me, bro, it’s gonna happen to you someday, too. I coulda done with another few songs, seeing as these only seem to last a minute or so, but what the hell. A fun record, and you can blow through it between commercials. Now, that’s convenience!
