 His website credits him as having an "unusual mind", but
frankly there isn't all that much about this collection of stand up
material that is going to raise many eyebrows. Did it make me laugh? Yes.
Uproariously? No.
Young Tosh runs laps around and skewers such usual targets as Buddhism,
Tourette's, Steroids, Sports, Country & Western and Plastic Surgery with
limited success. Tosh's strengths are a lack of self-consciousness--no
"look ma, I'm witty" here--and also a commendable brevity. ( I.E. he
demolishes his target and moves on, rather than beating the joke straight
into the ground ). But the material itself never fully overcomes it's
essential blandness. In a few years Tosh may be a force to contend with,
but for now the word "underdeveloped" comes to mind. |
