THE ILLUMINATI
|
The
Illuminati are Liquor and Poker’s latest Canadian conquest (joining
The Black Halos and Crash Kelly), and despite the fact the L&P
are re-releasing the Illuminati’s self-titled debut with a wicked new
embossed, one-eye-staring-at-you package for you fellas State-side, the
band has put out this 14-minute, six-song filler in the meantime. Who
knows when L&P will get around to releasing this one, or their brilliant
sophomore album On Borrowed Time, but given that the dudes
in The Illuminati have taken to starting side projects (Bathurst
and Drunkula), I figure we better get at this one while it’s fresh.
Once prevalent as the mighty spaghetti metal band Tchort, The
Illuminati have morphed into a trio of long-haired gypsy warriors who
conjure up some amazing, bluesy, metal-tinged, intricate rock songs that
are bound to stand long after you and I have turned to dust. It’s all wild
and fused and homegrown, like they’ve somehow stumbled upon the secret to
musical evolution and are exploiting the hell out of it. It makes total
sense, man, and rips you to the core. The Illuminati have never varied in
their heavy rock-ganic formula and Cheap Powers is an extension of that
long and strong reach. Their power, cheap or otherwise, runs real deep.________________________________________________________ |
