LA GUNS
Tales From the Strip

The past decade or so hasn’t been too kind to the once-kick-ass L.A. Guns. Lawsuits, line-up changes and a gaggle of questionable compilations flooding the market, have continually called the band’s credibility into question. But now, with a viable label behind them and a consistent lineup, the band has actually cranked out a decent product with Tales From The Strip.

One thing that makes this album different from other post-major-label offerings is the absence of guitarist Tracii Guns. Technically, there are no more “original” members, so can L.A. Guns go on without the riffs and licks of its namesake axe man? In this case, the answer is “Yes.” A concept album of sorts, Tales From The Strip is a nasty exposé on life in Hollywood, with each song telling a different story of the hood’s most colorful characters. Songs like "It Don't Mean Nothing," and "Gypsy Soul," are sleazy and mean, giving the glam metal of the band’s heyday a modern sheen. And they really shine on the uber-heavy "Hollywood's Burning.”

Besides being a return to form, word on the street is that this new disc is actually selling quite well, so L.A. Guns may just be back in the game.
