Butchers
Bill actually sent this record to my wife Stacey for review on
her Candy
For Bad Children site, but I heard her rockin’ out to it th’ other
day, and snatched it while she was distracted by one of those high school TV
shows she watches. I don’t know a fuckin’ thing about Butchers Bill
(like, what's with the name? Are they all butchers named Bill, or are they
missing an apostrophe and the butcher actually owes them, or what?)
‘cept that they’re from Brooklyn, and they absolutely scorch on this here
disc. “Quick and Painful” is rife with razor sharp cock rock guitars
and drunk-ass motorpunk tunes. Dig the nasty white trash chug of “Going
Home” (“This party sucks and I’m…”), the Detroit hellfire sleazepunk of
“3 AM”, and the triple-speed sweat rawk of “How Do I feel”,
complete with dive-bombing acid-metal guitar solo and mid-song KISS
cop. And brother, that’s just for starters. Admittedly, this record LOOKS
a wreck, with nothin’ but a blurry laser live photo from a Continental
gig to say “Hello World!” with, but you know, can’t judge a book by it’s
cover, man. And that kinda hassle is easily fixed anyway. They could hook up
with a generous porn star, buy some mirrored shades, start lookin’ the part,
and half of Sweden and most of the lower East Side would be lining up to
either suck them off or kick ‘em in the nuts. At any rate, this one came
outta nowhere and just grabbed me by the throat, and I reckon yer gonna feel
the same way. If the Dead Boys met up with the Supersuckers in
some dark Noo Yawk alley, you better believe it’d be “Quick and Painful”.
Here’s yer proof.
