retro rawkers Kickstart take the 70’s arena rock worship routine to
such a mind-boggling extreme that any track on “Fuel” could easily be
confused with a mid 70’s deep album cut by Blue Oyster Cult,
Foghat, or Triumph. I mean, this thing is remarkable in
that respect. The only contemporaries they got are Boston’s own pornoboogie
kings There, who they must trade live bootlegs with, or somethin’.
And just to prove it, dig the fancy bass pickin’ on “Touch the Sky”,
or the epic, Nazareth-baiting 5 minute arena ballad, “Devil’s
Lonely Nite”. Or maybe the cover of “Born to Be Wild”. Or their
Nuge-y, southern rock riffin’ theme song. Listen, I spent many long
nights in the 70’s listening to rock radio (Ok, so I was like 8 years old,
but I was paying attention), and believe me, this is exactly the way
it sounded. Bellbottom fetishists and ‘classic rock’ fans take note, this
‘un will flashback ya, but good. Yeah, but do they have honcho mustaches?
Yes they do, sir. Kickstart don’t fuck around. ________________________________________________________________________________ |
