Three-way split from a trio of very serious, stiff-lipped young fellas with
axes to grind and the axes to, uh...grind ‘em. First up is American
Heritage, a four man fist of fury from somewhere in Michigan. They chainsaw
through 3 brutal tracks here fulla psychotic howling, hardcore thump and
chug, and some surprisingly melodic Iron Maiden-esque guitar solos. Good for
tattooing the date of yr own death on yr thigh with a rusty pair of
scissors, somethin’ like that. Then London-based noise-trance-progheads F.O.E
trick out a ten minute-plus jam-slam by name of “Myrmidon”, which
sounds pretty much like an eagle fighting a grizzly bear in slow motion.
Fans of spooky discord and all things complicated oughta have a very slow,
languorous blast with this ‘un. Finally, there's Art of Burning Water, another UK
band who are apparently 2/3 Iraqi and 1/3 Irish, and who also play tricky hypno-doom math metal. These cats actually slip into big
metally grooves on
occasion, as on the bitchin’ Melvins-meets-Karma to Burn “The Well (Because
We Are)”. They are also complete radicals or total pranksters- never met the fellas, so I can’t say which- but they dedicate their tuneage to (among
other people) Iraq and Palestine, and their first track on here is named
“Who’s Going to Help God When I’m Through With Him”. Yikes! Anyway, if yer a
fan of Hydrahead-style nu-noise, then yr in luck, Einstein. Now, where the
hell is my headache powder?
