I don’t need to tell you that times are hard. And what the world needs
more than anything else right is more hot girls playing four-on-the-floor
cock rock – it’s as simple as that. But mixed-couple outfit Slunt’s debut
EP is mostly training bra slabbage for aspiring devil girls.
Singer/guitarist Abby Gennet (she’s also the host of those AOL broadband
concerts) and bassist Jenny Gunns have the Wylde Girlz look down pat, and
say all the right things to get the boys hot (“Wanna fuck or wanna
fight?/Don’t wanna fuck, turn out the light”), including a blithe rip
through Romeo Void’s “Never Say Never” (despite the fact that the song is
depressing as hell). And though Slunt’s songs are thick with glam starbust
riffs and grimy garage cherrybombs, if you’ve heard the Donnas, Les Hell
on Heels, Karinations, Half Cocked, etc., you’ve heard Slunt (and heard it
done better). So unless you’re dipping your toe into the sleazerock abyss
for the first time, you probably don’t need to give these dirty girls and
their manslaves a ride. However, if you’ve got a younger sister or niece
that’s in danger of falling for Yellowcard or (God help us) Good
Charlotte, then slip this disc into her panty drawer. She’ll thank you for
it later.
