Sure, SoCal vampire rockers
The Deep Eynde sound a
heck of a lot like the Misfits, share their obsession with monsters and
devil girls and brooding, have ghoulish noms du rock like Hal Satan and
Sean Vomit (Sean Vomit…?) and they’ve got a forelock-sporting,
Glenny
D.-style pin-up frontman in singer Fate Fatal. But their Disaster debut,
Shadowland, puts a surprisingly fresh spin on the Misfits’ crypt-kicking
sound…doesn’t it? Actually, no. If you’ve heard any of the post-Danzig
Misfits albums, you’ve already heard Shadowland—come to think of it, if
you’ve heard any indie-label pop-punk over the last three or four years,
you’ve already dived head first into The Deep Eynde. Still, it’s not a
complete loss– there must be a snot-nosed brat wearing a Good Charlotte
tee somewhere in your neighborhood. This might just save his life.
