Arizona-based she-devils Les Hell on Heels aren’t
reinventing the garage-whomp wheel on their debut long-player for Greg
Shaw’s Bomp label, but who the heck cares? The spitcurl-and-switchblade
quartet—comprised of Paula Monarch and Chela LaRue from the late, lamented
Peeps and Katie Rose (rowr!) and Kristin Machynski of the
Tempe
Tramps—fire off glossy-lipsticked power-pop riffs packed with
Runaways-style attitude and chops, and that’s always welcome at the House
of Sleazegrinder. Leather Frankenstein Jeff Dahl, who produced the Peeps’
2001 CD, also helped shepherd the Heels’ signing on Bomp and penned “Ain’t
So Cool,” which is definitely not applicable to these savage sisters. Need
a Good Time with some Bad Girls? Here’s the place to find it, fiend.
