THE (INTERNATIONAL) NOISE CONSPIRACY |
I’ve
heard this band’s cumbersome name tossed around a lot in the past few
years, but it’s always been by scruffy little 20-something freaks with
greasy porno mustaches, so I never paid attention. But this just landed on
my lap, so here’s what I’ve learned: they’re Swedish. Also, Rick Rubin
produced the album. This latter fact got me all excited, because I figure
it’s about time for Rick to start making AC/DC albums again.
Christ, he made some good ones back in the 80’s: Cult’s “Electric”,
the Four Horsemen, Danzig, Slayer, even that LL
Cool J rekkid sounded like “Back in Black” if you played it
loud enough. It’s been a long stretch of no mind-blowing major label riff
n’ roll, but there’s always a chance Rubin’s gonna turn it all around, ya
know? Well, maybe later. This “Conspiracy” ain’t gonna get the kids
rioting (or even fucking, really) in the streets, unless there’s something
highly incendiary about melodic garage rock that I’m missing. “Armed
Love” might as well be the new Makers album, or Soundtrack
of Our Lives, or even the Hives, if they started smoking a lot
of weed. This ain’t bad at all, really, with lotsa glammy “La-la-la”
parts, hard-sugar riffs, and a hint of deep fried soul, I just expected a
little more from a band with such a bomb-throwing name and a producer with
a beard halfway to his balls. _______________________________________________________ |
