Italian
snot rockets The Wild Weekend offer up a loose n’ slippery album’s worth
of head-bashing garage punk that neatly merges Sonics-style primitive rock
n’ roll pummel with the dark, punky glam of the Veins. Eschewing any
studio trickery, save for a piercing ambulance siren here and there, they
play it bucket-of-sweat style, with a live and raw feel that lives up to
their name, and unlike many nu-garage types, they ain’t afraid to get
HEAVY, as in the hairy scary go-go-gorilla thrills of “Better Than You”
or full-on speedfreak thrashy, as in the over-caffeinated “You Can Use
It.” Think the Dwarves meets the Hives, with a dollop of Sabbath to keep
things manly. The crashing smashing cover of Roses Tattoo’s oft-mined
classic “Nice Boys Don’t Play R’N’R” finishes this beast in fittingly
furious action, and very nearly makes up for guit-man Wild G’s bizarre
fashion choices (purple sleeves and Buggles glasses!). Typically manic
Italo-trash. Cool for cats. __________________________________________________ |
