MAMAKIN
Higher and Higher
Mama Kin

________________________________________________________

Three song blast of raunch n’ roll from these long-running Swede sleaze-dealers. As befits a band named after an Aerosmith song, Mamakin sound like they wrap lotsa scarves on their mic stands; it’s full-on gypsy metal, fulla bombastic choruses about the cosmic properties of sexual prowess and arena-wrecking guitar solos spiraling into focus every thirty seconds or so. Unlike most of their punk-fueled cock-rockin’ brethren, however, Mamakin lean heavy on the big, sweet harmonies of 70’s hard rock institutions like UFO, Starz, and even (gulp) Foghat, as evident in the city boy boogie of “Show You Sumthin”. Of the other two tracks, the lead-off is the winner of the pack, a slam-bang glam metal corker with a clappable chorus and some tasty, spandex-y flash guitars. Closer “Sunday Morning” is an overwrought cowboy ballad, which will be of interest mostly to the girlfriends of the guys in the band. And maybe cowboys. ________________________________________________________
