This demo didn’t come out yesterday or nothin’, but
these Jersey rev-heads have been a little too busy, lately, to waste their
days in some pussy recording studio. The Shaveks have been touring and
tearing it up the whole time, thrashing out their relentless,
blood-guzzling, shatter-proof muscle rock in pissholes and vomitoriums
everywhere, spreading their sourmash gospel to teenage flameouts and punk
rock bitches and whatever else doomed soul wanders in outta the rain,
night after endless night. They
know it’s getting them nowhere, that there’s no salvation in rock n’ roll
anymore, that they’re just gonna end up poor and sick and old. Yet they
keep writing songs, keep hitting the road, keep slaying the crowds with
their lethal, high octane sleazecore until their fingers bleed and the
whole world smells like puke. Why? Because the Shaveks are rock n’ roll
motherfuckers. And that’s just what rock n’ roll motherfuckers do, baby.
By hey, at least they managed to nail down these 4
tracks on their way to oblivion, so no matter what happens next, there’s
evidence. The Shaveks are part punk n’ roll riot, part cock rock killing
machine, mixing a sleazy, kill-for-thrills twin-guitar attack with
Zeke-style dirty speed and screamalong vocals, and “It’s Not Out Fault…”
captures them in a particularly pitch-black mood. Opener “We Will Not Fall
Down” is a blistering anti-everything anthem that sounds like some
unhinged cross between the Dragons and early Black Flag, the title track
is relentless, fist-fighting razor rock with about 17 Dead Boys’ albums
worth of Cheetah Chrome licks, “Beat Me” is greasy, Swede-style motorpunk,
and “Good For Nothin’” is tough, fast, evil fuckin’ rock n’ roll. I don’t
even particularly know what Shaveks are screaming about here (nor do I
know what the fuck a Shavek is) but I do know they mean every word of it,
cuz every time I listen to this, I end up punching some fucker’s lights
out a few hours later. Well, not really, but it revs me up but good
anyway.
Maybe an album is coming, or maybe doomsday will
get here first. If I was you, I’d hedge my bets and pick up “It’s Not Our
Fault…” while you wait for one or the other because rock n roll this
authentic is a rare commodity these days. If yr heart ain’t already black,
Shaveks are gonna char it into cinders.
