BANG TANGO

In checking out the promo sheet that came with the new Bang Tango disc I notice that the latest incarnation of Bang Tango has just finished a tour with former Ratt front man Stephen Pearcy. If that were not enough, Bang Tango is also set to embark on the nationwide “Metal in America” tour with Faster Pussycat.

Hey man, Metal Bands gotta eat too.

Let’s be honest. The last time anyone was aware of Bang Tango was back around 1989 with their first release “Psycho Café”.  I remember seeing “Someone Like You” on  MTV and it wasn’t even during Headbanger’s Ball. Bang Tango’s timing could not have been better. For those of you who have a hard time remembering the 80’s, 1989 was a busy year for Metal. Skid Row released their first album, LA Guns coughed up “Cocked and Loaded” and The Cult brought us to the Sonic Temple. Dokken broke up.

1989 was a good year.

I have to admit, when I heard I was gonna review this disc, I had Bang Tango confused with the Bullet Boys and “Smooth Up in Ya” was stuck in my head for hours. While the Bullet Boys failed to create another masterpieceofshit like the eponymous “Bullet Boys”, Bang Tango went on to release at least 11 more albums weather we wanted them to or not.

Anyway,  it turns out that Joe Leste´ is still fronting Bang Tango. It also turns out that Joe Leste´ is the only original Bang Tango member. “From the Hip” is your standard issue Metal Release right down to the Power Ballad (last track of course - “Angel Devil”). In cut 2 “Ain’t Nothin Better”, Leste' tells us he has “a million different ways to make you want to smile”.

For the record, Metal should never make you want to smile.  Unless of course you just had sex to it like 5 times. In a row. And not with yourself.

On “Get Use to It” (no, it’s not a typo) Leste´ lets us know he  is “gonna stick around” so “we better get Use to it”. Is this a threat Mr. Leste´? Although it’s not the worst Metal album I have ever heard (that honor belongs to every Scorpions album AFTER Blackout), the lyrics are completely lame. On track eight “Simple” Leste´ rasps “You make me feel ashamed/make me feel cold/think it’s so lame/maybe I’m weak/maybe your strong/tell me who’s right/maybe your wrong”

No Mr. Leste´, I’m not wrong. You are.

Sorry children of the 80’s...this one is only for TRUE Bang Tango fans. When I say that, it’s really only for you if you have the last 10 Bang Tango albums. __________________________________________________
