The first emission from the recently resurrected
Dead
Teenager records comes straight outta Lawrence, Kansas, a town that
appears to have more stoner rockers per square mile than even Gothenburg.
Filthy Jim are four mustachioed motherfuckers with bitchin’ record
collections and ruined livers who churn out deep-fried arena rawk that’s
equal parts Sabbath, Monster Magnet, Kiss, MC5, and Iron Maiden, with an
added dose of punk fuckin’ rock just to make it an even nastier ride. This
is their 2nd full-length, and it’s a solid, ass-smashing follow-up to
2001’s noisier “Whiskey and Porn”. There’s more solos this time, more wah-wah, more horse galloping, and more Zeke-style freakouts. It’s got
more of everything, really. Theoretically, there’s 8 songs here, but since
all of ‘em roll on for many minutes at a time and spin-off in several
different rock n’ roll directions at once, you could just as easily say
20. “Gasoline” is the heaviest, coming on like Roadsaw with their asses on
fire, and tastiest is probably their climactic cover of “Is It My Body”,
an already sleazy song that sounds downright STD-ravaged here. Pretty
fitting for a band named after dirty condoms. If you dig yr rock n’ roll
soaked in grime and high as a kite, then Filthy Jim is your kinda easy
action. __________________________________________________
