There must be a blatant, if not patent, link between this handsome 5-piece storming out of Las Vegas and the glossy veneer surface sheen of their sound that extends down to the cosmopolitan style feel of the CD booklet. Despite sounding like they’re a 48 million pixel cybernetic invention for some new Vegas spectacle, their mix of heartfelt metal and, whisper it, emo, works for all its O.C. omnibus Sunday – the rather banal, infantile nursery rhyme ‘Reverse This Curse’ – anthems and sections tailor made for teen solitude on the stairs also transmute to being the freeze-frame to fast-forward effects of CSI. The classic metal riffing of tracks like the Theseus trapped in a cyber maze of ‘The Webs We Weave’ and ‘There’s No Sympathy For The Dead’ have the multi-angled possible outcomes of such hi-tech US cop dramas, which works as seen down the used-sneaker trails of metal, yet the all-too-tidy conclusions to an episode of CSI is all too apparent in all it’s oil-rich slickness. Ambitious and a near antidote to nu-metal on one hand but such over-egged emoting and pop-metal picking does make you feel somewhat slimy on another and should you be consulting an Eastern goddess then another hand may well tell you that it’s little more than a Fall Out Boy with an enterprising leader / manager and Metallica’s ‘Ride The Lightning’ album. The future’s so bright, there’s no escaping their well-manicured fate.
