Scabrous
solar-plexus piercing splinters of post-punk death dancefloor nihilism
that on the surface may tick current trendy boxes such as The Fall and
P.I.L. but cleaves a stalactite through any such impossibly puerile
preconceptions by being an album of annihilation anthems such as ‘How The
East Was Lost’, ‘Throwing The Fight’ and the brilliantly named ‘It’s
Exactly Four Seconds To The Door, I’ll Give You Two’ that, in taking Steve
Albini’s bowel-scraping-with-rusty-razorwire Big Black guitar sound to its
illogical extremes of genetic brittle bone disease and muscle-wasting
mind-blowing majesty, vocals resembling the Swell Maps strangling each
other out of sheer panic at their first day trip out of their Middle
England homeland, provide the same shock to the system and instinctive
surge to react that Slayer and Alec Empire summon up. ‘Led Eye’, ‘Mutiny
Disease’ and ‘The Sex-Drive Thieves’ have Big Black and Human League
mingling frantically in a deviant disco with The Fall and The Cure,
spitting into drinks at the bar. Influences are somewhat futile though as
they transcend them into some fucked up future of mutant micro-robots and
miscreant micropchips. __________________________________________________ |
