Glitter-tastic five-shot of glam-pop from this half-U.S., half-Swede
quartet currently spreading the Gospel of the Flaming Creatures in Los
Angeles. The Girls are clearly sticklers for capturing the
sugar-and-spangles sound of vintage Sweet/Gary Glitter/Bay City Rollers,
as evidenced by the Cuban-heeled stomp beat of “Put Up or Shut Up” and the
helium-high backing vocals that float behind frontman and chief songwriter
Noah Wallace’s adenoidal croon, as well as a barnstorming tear through the
Sweet’s “Little Boy Blue.” But their fetish for accuracy doesn’t turn the
EP into a museum piece – the tunes are shamelessly sexy and catchy, and
should bring an amyl nitrate grin to the grumpiest, most un-glam listeners
(like myself). The S’cool Girls EP is Spirit of Seventy-Sex-style fun, and
perfect for round-the-clock skweezing and pleezing.
