The
latest full-tilt shock rock extravaganza from Minnesota's deadest is a
stripped-to-the-bone affair, their most punk-fueled blast of haunted house
rock since 1986's seminal "If We Had Brains...We'd Be Dangerous".
And that thing was punk was as fuck. Along with Rock City Morgue,
Impaler are one of the very few bands in the 'horror rock' biz that
actually ROCK. No Danziggy whoa-oh's or jerkabilly thumping here,
Skeletor, just lotsa sleazy Stooges guitars, phlegm-y cock rock
vocals, explosive flash metal solos, and blood and guts everywhere. The
super-killer in this rogue's gallery has gotta be the Motley Crue-meets-their-maker
motorglam crash n' roll of "The Last Ride" but then again, I always
was a sucker for cowbell, never mind zombie cowbell. There's also a
(fittingly) dead-on cover of Sonic Reducer, the speed metal hell of
World Insane (featuring a guest appearance from guitarist Mike
Torok, who was in the '83 Impaler line-up), and a whole buncha gory
rock n' roll that sounds like Venom, the Pagans, and '72
Alice Cooper all rolled into one supersonic freakshow. Don't wait
until they come looking for you, Jack, grab a copy of this splatterific
platter and dig it like a grave.
Oh, and by the way, if you peer
under the CD, you just might find a groovy-ghoulie message from your ol'
pal Sleazegrinder. Creeps like us tend to stick together.
