 Slideshaker
is a spectacularly fuzzy Finnish power trio that sprang to life a few
years ago as a ramshackle power-blooze trainwreck in the earbleeding vein
of Pussy Galore, but have somehow refined their attack into the beautiful,
shimmering gangpile of weirdo thump-rawk we have before us. In the Raw
is most definitely eclectic, with songs vacillating wildly from
ass-shaking garage punk to rootsy blues-rock, to groovy shitkicker stuff,
and right back to loud, balls-grabbing hard rock. Not all in the same
song, mind you, but still, they sure do like to mix it up. Me, Im a
simple man with simple tastes, so I really dig the straight-forward dirt
rockers, like the stripped-raw Bones, the Sweatmaster-y
head-bopper The Last Straw and the thick, greasy Unfortunate
Son, but believe me, youll find plenty to wrap your hairy paws
around here, because this mutha cooks from one end to the other. If you
dig heavy-devy blooze dealers like the Black Keys and Lee County Killers
and hook-heavy garage ravers like, well, the rest of the Bad Afro roster,
than do yourself a long-deserved favor and sniff this one out. Its the
