The Pulses - Little Brothers EP (Dirtnap)
____________________________________________________________________________________

Dirtnap Records steps into the sordid world of record collector scum-dom with their first big 10 incher, an 8 song clang-bang of fuzzy garage rock and rattling noise-pop from Seattle’s own Pulses. Of course, I only get a CD version, but that’s not your problem. Anyway, I’m not the kinda cat that’s likely to pan anything with bongos on it, because bongos always rock, but this ‘un’s also got an accordian, so it’s a tough call, really. I’m leanin’ towards general boss-hood, tho, especially with the killer closer, “Stop the Presses”, a minute-long, Brit-pop powered protest song with a snazzy jangle guitar and lotsa swearing. Actually, come to think of it, most of the songs hover at around one-minute-thirty. That may or may not strike you as dubious, since the whole package is only like ten minutes long, and goes for $8. But, ya know, it sounds a lot like the Strokes. And you dig the Strokes, right? Sure ya do. The Pulses are the Strokes with attention Deficit Order and better haircuts. And if that’s not a million dollar idea, nothing is.
