American Dog, Ohio’s favorite sons*, return after a year’s worth of overtime and payday binges to quench the insatiable blue-collar thirst for honest, rugged, American rock n’ roll. Folks say the fellas have ‘matured’ on this one, and point to tracks like the free-flowing, sun-dappled Southern rock epic “Lucky 13” or the country-blues of “Sunday Buzz” as examples, but I say, just look at the mountain of empties on the cover ( dude, you ever drink a Thirsty Dog?) and feast yr ears on the Jackyl-meets-Quireboys honky-tonk sleaze of “She Ain’t Too Pretty” or the blistering hard rock chug of “Faded” – not to mention the songs about bondage, and jailbait, and jailbait bondage - and ‘maturity’ is just another road sign we passed by in a blur half a highway ago.

As long as there’s porn and double-live Thin Lizzy records and 3 day weekends, there will an American Dog howling at the moon, and this ‘un howls with more conviction than any of ‘em. Frankly, I don’t even know if there’s a stereo in your house loud enough for this mutha.

*I oughta know, I blew through the Buckeye not too long ago, and all they had on the radio was endtime prophecies and ads for Ameridog shows)
