Reeder's
got an undeniably impressive pedigree, having treaded the boards with
Kyuss, The Obsessed, Goatsnake and Tool. Still, I felt a bit of
trepidation on receiving this, as all too often the sum is greater than
the parts. I shouldn't have worried though; this is quality with a capital
Q. On his debut solo offering, Reeder mixes and matches from a broad
musical palette--rock, psychedelia, a bit of grunge-- and comes out with a
memorable offering. Much of "TVB" is intelligent hard rock that
nudges the mainstream but still has an edge. But there's plenty of elbow
room for experimentation too: "Away" touches on a Tangerine
Dream like dreaminess. "Fuck You All" stands out, a clenched
fist goodbye that bemoans soured friendship and love. This will stick to
your ribs. ________________________________________________________ |
