LA
glamvets Slow Motorcade lay down a whole lovin’ spoonful of
candy-coated power pop tunes here that veer off into Dolls-y
stackheel swagger whenever the mood hits ‘em. And it hits ‘em a lot. Much
like Detroit legends the Trash Brats, Slo-Mo (as the locals
like to call them) are masters at concocting chewy sleaze-poppers that you
can already sing along to before the song’s even over. Unlike the TB’s,
however, Slow Motorcade construct said superhits like 70’s AM radio
epics, some of them stretching out as long as 5 minutes. As such, you really
get to sink deep into bliss-outs like the bitchin’ Nash Kato-meets
T Rex “Helpless Mystery”, a soaring love rock anthem fulla
handclaps, harmonies, Hammonds, and harpsichords, or the Stones-y
swank rock of “Union of One”, complete with honky tonk piano, or the
glammy, rootsy charmer “Life in a Moment”. Although Slow Motorcade
don’t attempt to rip yer tits off or steal yr motorcycle once here, it’s
lack of ferocity is more than made up with a whole buncha honest to god
SONGS, and if sunshiny powerpop like Dramarama, Cheap Trick,
Jellyfish, or Redd Kross is your bag- even if only some of the
time- than Slow Motorcade might just make yr fuckin’ day. It sure
made mine. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ |
