First of all, a word of warning: the cover art on
Shut Up and Take It is
definitely gonna get your ass thrown out of your girlfriend’s house if you
leave this one lying around on the coffee table without a little
explanation (and if she opens the CD and checks out the rest of it, you’re
really dead – there’s a couple of doctored nudie photos featuring girls
with urinals where their heads should be – thank you, Rob Jones). But if
she’s not overly sensitive and gets the idea that it’s the visual
equivalent of smack talk (or, conversely, if she likes taking a plunger to
the face – hey, some do), she’ll probably dig this new stomper from
killcrazy Texans the Pink Swords. Are you gonna hear anything different on
Shut Up that you didn’t on their last platter, One Night High? Nope – it’s
another hellswarm of ragged audio dust devils touching down in your ears
and scrambling what’s left of your brains in short, barely controlled
bursts of animal rage gone all hot and electric. Only this time around,
it’s even more pissed off – Shut Up sounds like the last dog left at the
pound, the one who knows it’s got a date with the needle, but it’s not
going down without taking off a few fingers, and maybe a kid or two, if
it’s lucky. You’re goddamn right, ouch.
