Joan
Jett and Kenny Laguna produced this debut CD from these Cleveland
miscreants, and though musically it’s all over the map – The Vacancies
swerve from Rancid/Offspring-style bootstompers to poppier territory and
then straight back to straight-ahead East Coast punk bashery, with a
off-kilter pit stop into something that plays havoc with David Bowie’s
“Suffragette City” (“Hey Man”) – you know that ultimately,
Joanie’s never gonna steer you wrong, especially with something she’s put
out on her own label. Jaded old twats like me will probably play the
been-there-heard-that card with vigor in response to The Vacancies’
well-recycled sound, but younger brothers or kids across America will
definitely appreciate receiving this vicious and vigorous hand-me-down.
