Sweden’s
own Truckfighters offer up their first full-length here (I seem to
remember a split EP and mebbe a single before this). It’s an extremely
well-played and produced slab of contemporary stonerrock with a few
eccentric flourishes here and there. Very few, really. For most of
Gravity X’s running time, Truckfighters just seem to be aping Fu
Manchu whole – riffs, rhythms, the whole boogie-van vibe. Nothin’ wrong
with that, we need all the groove we can get these days, but the only real
deviations from the relentless Californication are The 70’s cop show
stoner funk of…well, “Superfunk” and the requisite breezy,
space-face Hawkwind homage “Altered State”. Otherwise it’s
all rather brilliantly executed, but a little samey-samey to my ears.
Nonetheless, Gravity X will surely have the bowlscrapers and
wall-watchers among us…umm…scraping their bowls and watching their walls
with glee. Which is entirely the point of this stuff, right? ________________________________________________________ |
