Germany’s
Armstrong return, loud and proud, with a monstrous new album full
of their signature two-ton heavy Crunch n’ Roll. Borrowing liberally from
the American stoner rock movement (Kyuss, several Kyuss rip-offs and
off-shoots) and mixing it like mad alchemists with pulsating action rock
and grandiose NWOBHM flourishes, our Teutonic friends have created a
slobbering rock n’ roll beast here that sounds very much like a tank
rolling through town, crushing everything in it’s path, even puppies and
the occasional toddler. Armstrong are redefining the concept of stoner-y
‘groove’ rock in the same way that Cathedral did with doom – they’re
making it bigger and meaner than ever before. Dig the mountain-scooping
pile of druggy guitars on “Helium Express”, the seething “FB
Eye” or the awesome, party-ending opener “The Rock N’ Roll
In Me Is the Rock N’ Roll In You” for three prime examples. Not
for pussies, this one. ________________________________________________________ |
