I
don’t think I’ve ever stumbled upon a Motorhead trib before, so it is
without reservation that I say this is the best Motorhead tribute
record I’ve ever heard. No wonder, really, as its packed balls deep with
bands that are sleazy and obnoxious enough to at least stand in Lemmy’s
warty shadow, if not his crusty jackboots. The party starts with a
speed-boogie rendition of Going to Brazil by Green Dollar
Colour. I have no idea who they are, but they sound like Bob Seger,
which is sleazy in it’s own way. Female fronted German hard rockers
Skew Siskin belt out a scorching “Boogey Man”, and the
even more female Swede sleaze metal vixens Crucified Barbara bash
out “Killed By Death”. On the fellas’ side, Ohio beerkillers
American Dog do, in fact, “Rock It”, Crank County
Daredevils, quite appropriately, go “Over the Top”,
Henry Rollins’ backing band, Mother Superior, drop the Lizzy-isms
for a quick roar through “Bomber”, Vancouver glam champs
Crystal Pistol tear the guts outta “No Class”, French
devildogs the Hellsuckers shine on a particularly dead-on “Nothing
Up My Sleeve”, and, well, more, including a Skew Siskin/Lemmy
team-up and a Crucified Barbara/American Dog duet on “Please Don’t
Touch” which will bring back happy, happy memories of the classic
Motorhead/Girlschool 10”, “The St. Valentines Day Massacre”.
Which is what this one’s called, too. The snazzy artwork is even a riff on
the original. A swank job from Frenchy label Bad Reputation, well
worth the dough if, you know, you like rock n’roll. Which you do.
