Last time I checked- which wasn’t yesterday or nothin’, but still- the
Finnish Spinefarm was a blood n’ guts ‘extreme’ metal label, fulla Pagan
hellbeast blackthrash bands and murderous death metal, but somewhere along
the line, they musta got socked with the Power of Rawk and sparked up a much
sleazier wing to the empire. This comp flaunts a buncha their new rock n’
roll signings, and it’s a hell of a wallop, Fred. Up front is two new tunes
(“Heavy Tiger”/ "Save Rock n Roll”) from former (? I dunno Scandi-label
politics) Bad Afro stars Flaming Sideburns, and they just rock like crazy.
Total shaker-maker fuzz n’ roll goodness, stylistically and sonically
similar to the ridiculously famous Aussie retro-rockers Jet, only, ya know,
cooler, and with a better name. Then there’s a cuppla speedy, Deep Purplish
70’ s arena rockers care of new-to-me Mannhai, and two bitchin’, Ronettes
inspired sugar-sleaze tracks from the grrrl powered Thee Ultra Bimboos,
including a cover of Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It”.
Heaven N’
Hell lay down two scorching, Skid-Row styled
Flash Metal tracks, The Mutants
are, uh, stoner-surf, I think, The Black League sound like fuckin’ Motorhead,
and Lemonator…well, Lemonator are kinda lame, but what the hell. On the
strength of most o’ the bands on deck here, Spinefarm are one of my new fave
labels, even with all the corspepaint. “Truckin’” is one of these
‘low-priced’ samplers, so it won’t even cut into yr porn budget. If ya see
it around, snatch a copy, it’s a rocker.
