DANKO JONES
Sleep Is the Enemy

Let me start out by saying that this album has a truly classic cover. One of the best I’ve seen in some time. It kind of has this breezy Easter quality to it, and seeing as how Sleazegrinder predicted that the only way Danko Jones might be able to top their hard hitting opus, We Sweat Blood, was if Danko the man actually died and resurrected himself. He didn’t though, as far as I know, so don’t let the stark serenity of the cover fool you, because this is a relentless motherfucker, chock full o’ Danko’s signature bombast, uncontrollable cool, and adrenaline overload. These are perfectly crafted rock songs, my friends, all nut-kicking hard and blood-boiling fast, and if you’re familiar with Danko’s rock n’ soul, you know exactly how this one plays out. But just because Danko knows what works doesn’t mean he’s gonna slack off. No sir. Dig the vocal melodies on “Don’t Fall in Love” and “When Will I See You Again” or the trippy guitar work of “Baby Hates Me” and “Time Heals Nothing”. The nuances are subtle, but make a big difference. Hell, Sleep is the Enemy is big. I mean BIG. Danko Jones BIG, naturally. And if you haven’t figured it out yet, Danko wants you to live BIG too. Remember, sleep is the enemy, and just one album ago he was snarling “I never sleep…I'll take a break when I die”. Got it? I suggest you do the same. Start by getting your hands on this powerful album. It’s the musical equivalent of speed and will keep you wired for the rest of your ragged days.

Also, you should know that John Garcia of Kyuss/Unida/Hermano fame pulls guest vocal duties on the song “Invisible.” It fucking rocks.
