Kosnik, the snarly acid snorter/blood spitter in Atomic Bitchwax
– which is a Monster Magnet side-project – has his OWN
side-project, Black Nasa. Or mebbe it’s his main gig, I dunno. You
know how messy it gets when drugs are involved. Anyway, since it’s his
distinctive drawl and loping, low-end thump running rough-shod over this
‘un, you’d figure it’d sound, well, like the speedball acid-metal mania of
Atomic Bitchwax, even if just a little. Nope. This is more like,
let’s say, if Bloodrock had a secret 5th side two a double-live
album, like, when they were flying on fumes at 3 AM, just IN the
groove, ya dig? It’s like that, hazy and eazy and greazy, a big ‘ol wallop
of 70’s biker-boogie riding on dusty, druggy blooze rivvums, straight on til
dawn. Personally, I wouldn’t peg “Deuce” (their 2nd album, natch) as
“stoner rock”, even with the big clouds of green smoke rising from
it, since it’s more of a retro-FM rock sorta affair. Sans Sabbath, if
you will. So, if yer expecting the usual weed-cycle headbanger chug MC’s
usually offering up, you might come away with less than a throbber, but, if
yer up for a spacey headphone melter circa ’76, than light it up, burnout.
