The frankly alarming screeching eagle vox of one
Gabz St. White propel
young British sleaze dealers Kick N’ Scream into near self-parody (or all
the way, I dunno what their game is) on this wildly unstable 4 song demo.
If you’ve ever heard a live Crue recording from 1982, or a Wrathchild (UK
version, which is the only version we recognize around here) demo from
around the same time, than you know what to expect – mangled glitter punk
guitars, rubber-legged raunch, drums that sound like fists pounding on
suitcases, and that high-pitched, gutted-cat yelp. Toss in a warbling
back-up singer with a porn star name (Sammara Wednesday) and you’ve got
the whole loony package. Me, I like it, especially the rambunctious,
combustible, slam-along “Steamroller”, but I am just the type to wax
nostalgic about spandex punk, aren’t I? Whether Kick N’ Scream develop
into a foaming sleaze metal beast when they land the budget to record
something more plush is anybody’s guess, but for now, check out this
gloriously ramshackle throwback to those crazy, crazy, crazy nii-iights. ________________________________________________________ |
