Norwegian,
corpsepainted necro-freaks 1349 follow up their 2003 debut rip-ride “Liberation”
with another dose of high-velocity, goat-horns-fulla-gore blackened thrash
metal that literally makes me wanna smash somebody’s brains in with a
telephone, or whatever else is handy. I love these maniacs. They’re like
Slayer, if Hellhammer were Slayer, and if toothy snakemen
from the Abyss were Hellhammer. Not content to take you to the brink
of the apocalypse, 1349 wanna take you BEYOND it, to a frozen
hellscape of pain and torment and whatever else they have in store. Along
the way, you get black-as-fuck thrash epics like “Chasing Dragons”
and “Singer of Strange Songs” , and the blistering “Blood is the
Mortar”, things of beastly intensity that come on like a fistful of
razorwire, slashing and slamming into yr ears until they’re nothin’ but
blood and gristle. A fiendishly good slab of pure, black-hearted,
hate-fueled rot n’ roll.
