The Forty-Fives
High Life High Volume
Yep Roc

It’s easy to slag this fourth go-round of garage bash from this Atlanta outfit – it doesn’t break any new ground, and the band sounds like a less electric-Satanic Supersuckers – but you know, there’s plenty of reasons to like it, too. The ’66 Shake-and-Quake energy never flags, and if the band tosses out recycled Stones/Kinks/Sonics riffs on every tune, they play them like their lives depend on it, which as any retro rocker will tell you, is the way to do it. Producer Jim Diamond gives their whapadang a polish without rendering it slick, and there’s nice contribs from Mick (Gories/Dirtbombs) Collins and Deanne (Sirens/Gore Gore Girls) Iovan, who puts her back into a hip-swinging version of “Daddy Rolling Stone.” High Life High Volume isn’t gonna change your life, but it’ll probably brighten up your next Friday night, which isn’t a bad trade at all. _______________________________________________
