“I’m a hick sick
chick, but I’m funky”
Dragster
(or “Dragstah”, if you’re from Boston), is a British punk band fronted by
a loud, screamy chick with Betty Page bangs named Fiona. On stage,
Fiona is apparently a force to be reckoned with, an aggressive
psycho-sexual predator in tight pants and a man-sized belt buckle. On
record, she’s pissed-off and proud, ripping through her tawdry tales of
life in the sticks like a lioness roaring just because there’s no one big
enough to tell her not to. Her band gamely tries to keep up with her,
providing a squawking wall of chainsaw punk n’ roll grind for her to freak
freely in. Despite almost all of the songs being about rednecks and
hillbillies (I seriously had no idea they even existed in the UK), there’s
an undeniable feral sexuality to this band that transcends the simplicity
of their music. Dunno what it is, I’m just telling you, this is one highly
fuckable record. _______________________________________________ |
