Short is a Long Beach punk band with a classic early hardcore sound,
very reminiscent of Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and DI, with punchy choruses
and choppy guitars bashed out in short, sharp, 2-minute chunks. It’s fun
stuff, especially for a crypster like me who remembers hazy summer nights
in the parking lot of the VA Center during all-ages punk shows in the
80’s. Makes me feel like I’m gonna drink a lot of warm beer tonight, and
maybe make out with a teenage runaway, if I’m lucky. It’s like “Suburbia”
without the baby-eating wild dogs. Or maybe with the dog, I dunno, I’ve
never been to Long Beach.
For all the hair-raising and hell-blazing music, though, there’s some very
sobering lyrical content to swallow, shit about war, injustice, poverty,
and other gruesome subjects. That’s alright for the kids to ponder, but
I’m just gonna pretend all the songs are about teevee, and, you know, punk
the fuck out. __________________________________________________ |
