Belched
up from the swamps of Port Orchard, Washington, Mosgenerator is
less like a stoner rock band and more like a stoner rock opera. "The
Late Great Planet Earth" has movements, not songs, epic monoliths
of darkness and blinding light that slosh around back and forth like heavy
liquid in a mastodon's skull. "Opium Skies" and "Closed
Casket" ladles on the Sabbath-y fuzz like a switched-on sHeavy, "On
The Eve" is eerie silence followed by crackling thunder, "The
Golden Chariot" floats freely in outer space, "The Fall of
Meggido" is a two-tons worth of Floyd, and so on. Depending on
where you drop the needle (laser, whatever), you'll hear shades of Monster
Magnet, Pentagram, Dozer, Hendrix, Hawkwind, Clutch, all kindsa shit. And
to their credit, Mosgenerator don't overplay, successfully strangling the
urge to get all fuckin' jammy. Bony and drone-y, Mosgenerators'
bottom-heavy hypno metal is the perfect soundtrack for the cartoon show
going on inside your eyelids. _______________________________________________________ |
