Pistepirko is a long running (try 20 years!) Finnish garage rock band,
and this EP digs way, way back into the vaults and plucks out a single
from 1986, "Ou Wee", which happened to be the first one they
sang in English. Yes, I know that "Ou Wee" isn't really English, but it's
close enough. It's backed with "Hiss Hiss" and "Havana
City Beat", and all of 'em are bouncy, poppy 60's garage rockers.
Real happy-slappy kinda stuff. If you could flip this, then the other
side would have three skronking garage rave-ups, all three of them Link
Wray covers, from The Others. And you would think that The Others
sound remarkably like 22 Pistepirko. And that would be quite perceptive,
because it's the same band. Some alter-ego shit, I dunno why, but it's
just as pleasant and breezy as the A-side. This EP is a taster for an
upcoming album in June, so if you dig it, baby, yr gonna get more like it
real soon. A much more sugar-coated release than you'd expect from the
sweatmasters over at Bad Afro, but a nice little slice of vintage garage
rock, nonetheless.
