South
Filthy is a pick-up group fulla Austin garage slop greats, including
Walter Daniels from Jack O' Fire, Jeff Evans from Gibson Bros and '68
Comeback, Jack Yarbar from the Oblivions, Rice Moorehead from Bigfoot
Chester, and Mike Buck from the…damn… Fabulous Thunderbirds. I hated the
Fab T-Birds like poison in the 80's, but that's mostly because of the
videos. Rake-rocker Eugene Chadbourne is in there too, as well as a
smattering of other disheveled notables. As you might expect, their sound
is loose n' greasy, like a plate of diner hash, full of tasty blooze and
shit-kicker dirt-country. "Crackin' Up" is mostly a covers
album, and includes such rehab-bound classics as "I Like Beer"
by Tom T. Hall, and "Brand New Way of Living" by the
Hickoids. Sorta surprisingly, it's also got rubber-legged takes on Warren
Zevon, Ian Hunter, and punk legends the Zeroes, as well. This is the kinda
record you want to keep around if you like falling asleep in the sun after
a two-day rum binge, or you've been divorced more times than you've been
married.
