DEMONS AND WIZARDS
Touched By the Crimson King

Demons & Wizards.
The very name conjures images of …demons.
And…wizards.
Like Guns & Roses before them, Demons & Wizards (from here referred to as D&W) made an impressive debut in 2000 with their self titled… debut.
Touched By The Crimson King (from here referred to as TBTCK) buries that album with a +4 jeweled skull shovel.
The title suggests it could be a concept record about an incident at a North Carolina McDonalds involving an 8 year old boy.
It is not.
And I’m not trying to say the Crimson King touches kids, it just might be a good idea for him to have the Jackson defense on retainer.
Cause why not..

D&A is actually a two man band made up of Hansi Kursch
( vocalist for Blind Guardian) and Jon Schaffer ( guitarist and leader of Iced Earth) and it sounds like it.
It literally sounds like Blind Guardian and Iced Earth moved into an apartment on Fire Island.
And they don’t care what you think about their lifestyle.
This album is like a movie soundtrack to a movie called “Oh My Fucking God This is True Metal”.
Heavy Metal to me is not this pseudo hardcore/rap/grunge/System of a Down…fucking crap.
It’s about big assed swords and the brave warriors that use them.
It’s hard to choose favorites because you really got to hear this as a whole piece like Bach or Gino Vennelli, but if I had to pick favorites right now I’m digging on Terror Train (which I think is the single?) and the title track came dangerously close to making me pee my pants.
And I had shorts on at the time so…

The band also covered Zepplin’s seminal Christmas favorite Immigrant Song.
This sounds like a bad idea on paper but when you hear it you feel gay for thinking it might have been a bad idea.
This record made me want to break windows and summon witches to break even MORE windows for me.
Now admittedly this kind of music isn’t for everyone.
But if you like Maiden, Priest or any old school British (or current euro power) metal then it would be a shame, nay a tragedy to not be Touched by the Crimson King.
Heh….
