'I'm not like those others...'

Murdocks appear, from my researches, to be Texans and
glory be and praise due indeed, for they do keep up the score for Texans being decidedly and deliciously crackers but also rather fucking good. Especially when
they smash thru the doors, making 'em swing like western saloon doors, and you look yonder askance
under your hat brim and squint, Josey Wales style, shake your head absently and mutter that it can't be Paul Westerberg. Can it? No. But right from opener
'Saddest Star' there are songs that in a different blackout old Westers would've loved to have put out on 'Eventually', along with 'Da Da'. They have a whipping, swinging party of
glitteryindiepoppunkpowerpop for you to come down into
their subterranean lair to attend. Their own garden of
delight that at various times recalls The Pixies - the fabulously titled 'Horsegore', suggesting strange ritual practices, possibly filmed on cam-corder or not, I wouldn't like to know...or a fascination with animal motifs like Sparklehorse. Moreso with the hints of 'Where Is My Mind?' on 'Title Track' and loud/quiet scenario, coupled with sung/scream into distortion vocals. And? I'm liking it. Annoyingly, the equally,
if not far better, titled 'Dance The Vomit Shakes' is one of the weakest tracks here, reminding me of horrible UK whingie-indie, or US college indie, and is a heinous waste of a great title, as does 'Bloody Murder', tho in a nice Pulp as psychocore band manner. At other times there's Radiohead and even Placebo suggestions (sorry!) along with Foo Fighters. Of who they unfortunately follow a little bit down the dusty dirt road, however tentatively and tippy-toed, of
blowing lots of hot air and only getting dry, sore throats. But standout but not stand alone 'Death Of A French Whore' (that commences with the intro from Nikki Sudden's 'Waiting For The Siege'), the creepy, weird, tin shed country murder ballad junkyard wigout of 'My Scarlet Purpose', 'Bloody Murder', no mans land soundtrack 'Get Your Guns' and stomping distorto pop 'Segue' all put them into the realms of a savagely but deliciously deranged, addictive, unhinged kingdom pretty much of their own. Cracked mirror guitar pop
for crazy chicos!
