The
glam-daddies in Italian cock rock sexplosion RadioVipers met on the
way home from a Faster Pussycat show, which will be self-evident 30
seconds into the bubble-glam flash metal of opener “Boom Baby”. Ok,
so the eternal-infernal rockitude of lead voxist Mez Ryan is
hampered, somewhat, by the heavy accent in his plaintive, Kravitz-like
howl, but otherwise the ‘Viper have all the elements in place for rockin’
all day and rollin’ all night: hot chick bass player (Sarah Stripe),
cool names (drummer: Iggy Street!), awesomely snotty – and
simplistic- lyrics (“She’s on the phone/I really don’t care”), and songs
that sound like vintage Love/Hate. Well, Love/Hate with a hard Italian
accent. Guitarist Manny Pearl is a scorcher, too, capable of laying
on thick layers of heavy-devy 70’s thunderboogie one minute, and setting
the fretboard aflame with that Steve Stevens-style flashy solo shit the
next. Best track on deck has gotta be the confidently sleazy “Pigs In
The Mud”, a hook-heavy cock n’ roller with a big, ballsy chorus, but
the obligatory acoustic roots-rocker “Body From Mars” is pretty
charming, too, and the aforementioned “Boom Baby” is vintage Sunset
Strip glam metal, only, you know, not really vintage. As with many of the
Italian retro flash metal bands, RadioVipers aren’t exactly gonna win any
awards for originality, but “The Morning Sunburst” is still better
than any of Jizzy’s post “Blackout” nonsense. No regrettable rap
segments, either. So hey, if ya like loud, flashy, over-the-top 80’s cock
rock, RadioVipers most certainly fit the bill. ________________________________________________________ |
